Treatment with an Oral Appliance

An oral appliance, or mandibular advancement device, is a custom made, acrylic or nylon guard that fits over the upper and lower teeth. There are several mechanisms, but all of them bring the lower jaw forward to open the airway and help the patient breathe better. Generally we start in a neutral position and advance the mandible to find the right setting for you. See the next section for common FAQ's on oral appliances.
